RT23
OPAL-RT’s 15th annual conference on real-time simulation will take place in the vibrant city of Lisbon, Portugal from November 13th to 16th, at the sophisticated Altis Grand Hotel
Over the last several years, we shared many examples of how OPAL-RT enabled our partners and customers to create profound changes across the power system and transportation industries. This year’s theme “Your ideas, our energy” reflects the essence of RT23’s commitment to fostering an environment that encourages innovation and that will help the world build better and more sustainable solutions.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Scheduled events include demonstrations, meetings with OPAL-RT subject matter experts, a variety of papers, and an exhibit floor of companies displaying their own recent advances in the industry. We also aspire to have numerous networking opportunities available for attendees, hence the importance we place on providing exquisite breakfast, lunch, cocktail, and diverse entertainment options for all participants.
RT23 will also allow you to richly experience and enjoy Lisbon, the stunning capital city of Portugal, one of the most charismatic and vibrant cities in Europe.
Conference attendance as well as meals, dining, and social events are included in the cost of the tickets.
TUTORIALS
As part of RT23, we are pleased to offer you four informative tutorials:
Tutorial 1 : Monday, November 13th, 13:00 to 15:00
HIL Simulation basics Setting up and automating a hardware in-the-loop experiment
In this tutorial, you’ll discover a Simulink-based case exhibiting a controlled system. You’ll be guided through the creation of the simulation project and the offline simulation of the studied model, so as to understand its behavior. Then, you’ll learn how to create and configure the user interfaces and connect the simulated model with a real external controller for the HIL experiment. Finally, you’ll discover how to automate test scenarios to improve productivity during the design and validation of the studied system.
Tutorial 2: Monday, November 13th, 13:00 to 15:00
PHIL in theory and practice Stabilizing the closed loop
In the initial segment, this tutorial on Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) test beds offers a comprehensive theoretical overview of the testing methodology, along with a breakdown of its requisite components. We delve into fundamental aspects of establishing a closed-loop system, exploring key considerations and addressing the challenges associated with constructing a resilient test bed. In the latter part of the tutorial, we shift our focus to a practical examination of the critical stability aspect. We present straightforward strategies for achieving stability in real-time simulations and closed-loop operations, illustrating these concepts through live demonstrations using a real-world simulator.
Tutorial 3: Monday, November 13th, 15:30 to 17:30
Power Electronics simulation with eHS Gen5 The fast and the furious 2
This tutorial introduces participants to the requirements for high-fidelity real-time simulation of power electronics converters with focus on Dual-Active Bridge and resonant converter topologies. Participants will get familiar with the latest generation of electrical Hardware Solver (eHS) and get understanding on state-of-the-art solution for simulation of power converters with high switching frequencies. A guideline based on a set of examples provides a comprehensive overview of the workflow to bring power electronics models from a circuit editor to real-time simulation and CHIL testing.
Tutorial 4: Monday, November 13th, 15:30 to 17:30
Bridging domains: Transient Electromagnetic / Phasor co-simulation Simulating power systems without compromise
Combining the computational efficiency of phasor-based solvers with the accuracy and detail of electromagnetic transient simulations (EMT) offers new possibilities for studying and testing the interaction of power electronics systems like HVDC systems with larger transmission networks. This tutorial introduces the concept of EMT-Phasor co-simulation and demonstrates it using OPAL-RT’s ePHASORSIM solver paired with RT-LAB’s Simulink Simscape Electrical blockset. Based-on a new RT-LAB example model we will showcase an integrated workflow for performing EMT-Phasor co-simulation in real-time on a single simulator. We will also cover new improvements in the area of model import for ePHASORSIM by incorporating a PowerFactory transmission system model into the simulation using Functional Mockup Units (FMUs).
